Chinatown Art Salon exhibited my work at Realm in Chinatown Plaza, March 17–April 22, 2018.
Curators Sonia Mak and Shervin Shahbazi with the venue Realm did a great job organizing and kudos to them for focusing on Chinese artists in historic Chinatown that is fast disappearing due to gentrification. Of all the art galleries in the area that have taken over these spaces, there aren’t really any that have given much voice to the people who have histories there. The aging, picturesque curiosities of L.A.’s Chinatown have always readily cashed in on ethnic exoticism, but at least those kitschy facades supported and housed Chinese families and created a haven of support for an immigrant network.
We also organized a wonderful plein air art making event in Chinatown Plaza:
A roster of very talented artists and the public were invited to participate. There were some great pieces created! I was also really grateful to these wonderful and generous artists who spent the day drawing, painting and engaging with the public.
